Rebecca Peters – Artist Statement
I’ve been making artwork for sixteen years and have found myself working almost solely on collages for the last six years. I have also worked in pen & ink, painting, photography, etchings, letterpress, book-making, mixed-media, and a bit of sculpture. The collages are created with both torn and cut bits of paper from National Geographic magazines. I find collages work really taps my creativity and the artwork almost seems to make itself. I lay down scraps of color and move them around until I see the hint of a scene emerge. There will be the suggestion of a figure chopping wood. I’ll shift some of the the pieces and it will become a bird on a rooftop. So, I shift and shift until the “ah-ha” moment comes. A new world is born.

JASON COE – Artist Statement

On a lighter, yet out of key note, thoughtful random acts are a major element of my work. I am simply a tool in the process. My interest is in expression, but the outcome isn’t always obvious. I enjoy working quickly and discovering my materials along the way. Since there really isn’t a beginning or an end to the method, I just hope to pause long enough to salvage the good part before it disappears. Layers and textures play a heavy role in a visual labor of discovering the message within my work. Sometimes answers are clear; “reconnect with nature”, and sometimes they are not and remain unknown to me until the end, if then. Other times I feel I have no idea what I am doing, other than pacing around my garage, spilling paint and forgetting where I left my keys. I don’t waste time thinking about this; other than the notion of losing yourself in your work.
